Merville E. Franklin, 72, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY —  Merville E. Franklin, PHD, 72, passed away Aug. 11, 2019, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1946, in Barbados, the son of Weldon Grosvenor and Iona Corbett.

At the age of six he and his family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he graduated from high school and college.

He went on to work for Mort Sweeney on Wall Street, was involved with the banking sector in NYC for several years before moving into heath care. He became a phlebotomist and worked at Bath Israel South Hospital in NYC for fifteen years.

He moved to Watertown to care for his life long friend Magdalene Robinson. He was recently diagnosed with rapid growing leukemia and Magdalene became his caregiver during his final days.

Merville loved music and writing jingles, he enjoyed singing and was an active member of the Nazarene Baptist Church in NYC.

Among his survivors are his life long friend and companion Magdalene Robinson, Watertown and a cousin Brenda Hall-Wall, Barbados.

Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held a later date to be announced.
