Meth lab bust in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG, NY (news release) — On March 25, 2019, at 8:32 pm, the Ogdensburg Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit and St Lawrence County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1223 Mechanic St. in Ogdensburg, NY, where materials and components used for the manufacture of methamphetamine were located, police said.

As a result of the material and items observed in the residence, the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Response Team (CCSERT) were activated and responded to the scene.

During the investigation and search of the residence, investigators recovered an active, “one pot” methamphetamine lab, as well as, components of those labs, police said.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals that occupied the residence were arrested and charged:

Michael L. Vernsey, age 36, of 1223 Mechanic Street Ogdensburg, New York
– Unlawful manufacture of Methamphetamine in the Second Degree (“C” Felony)
– Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2 nd Degree (“AII”
Felony)

Sarah L. Ashley, age 40, of 1223 Mechanic Street Ogdensburg, New York
– Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine 3 rd Degree (“D” Felony)
– Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2 nd Degree (“AII”
Felony)

Vernsey had been previously convicted of Unlawful Manufacture of
Methamphetamine in the 3 rd Degree in March of 2016. Both Vernsey and Ashley are currently being held in City lock-up pending arraignment.

The Ogdensburg Narcotics Enforcement Unit was assisted by members of the St.
Lawrence County Drug Task Force, the New York State Police’s Contaminated Crime Scene Response Team and the Ogdensburg Fire Department.
