WATERTOWN, NY — Minnie Habib Mathar, 101, of Elm Street, Watertown, passed away Aug, 4, 2018, at the home of her daughter, Toni Rezak, where she was being cared for by her family and Hospice of Central New York.
Mrs. Mathar was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Rome, NY, the daughter of Michael and Celia Elhage Habib. In 1935, she graduated from Watertown High School.
She married Joseph G. Mathar on Nov. 28, 1937. He died in 1967.
Mrs. Mather owned and operated Mathar Grocery Store on Morrison Street for many years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church.
Surviving are a son, George (Donna) Mathar, Carthage; a daughter, Antoinette (Louis) Rezak, Syracuse; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Marion Mathar, died in 1990. Two sisters and two brothers also died before her.
An hour of calling will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Tandayu officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
