The New York State Police cautions the public not to purchase pharmaceuticals from illegitimate sources because although the tablets are the same shape, color, and share the same imprint as prescription medications which are regulated, controlled,  and contain precise dosages of known substances, these imitation pills are indistinguishable and have been found to contain substances some being synthetic opiates, far more potent than fentanyl and have contributed to overdose deaths, though they may not currently be illegal in New York State.
