NYS Zoo at Thompson Park is accepting donations of produce

WATERTOWN, NY  — As a non-profit organization, The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park relies on admissions, memberships, educational program fees donations in order to operate. Being closed for the time being will have a significant impact on our overall budget. The Zoo, however, is continuing to make sure that its resident animals receive the utmost care and needed enrichments.
While businesses and restaurants have been mandated to cut back and have been graciously supporting community needs during the COVID 19 outbreak, donating the produce to the New York State Zoo for the animals is also an option. It takes, on average, 25 pounds of fresh produce (sweet potatoes are the most nutrient-rich) to feed the animals daily.
Donations of produce can be dropped off at the Zoo (administration building side door) during the hours of 8am – 5pm. For large deliveries or for more assistance/questions, please contact Debbie Bleier at (585) 703-5130. The community is also encouraged to consider a cash donation to help the Zoo through the unforeseeable future by going to https://www.nyszoo.org/angels-for-animals/
