NYSP: Family Dollar store manager falsely reported armed robbery

WILLIAMSTOWN, NY —  Kathryn E. Smith, 33, Hannibal, NY, was charged by state police in Pulaski with third-degree grand larceny, a class “D” felony and third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a class “A” misdemeanor.

“On Dec. 7, 2020, at 10:24 p.m., State Police responded to the Family Dollar store on State Route 13 in Williamstown, NY, for a reported robbery in progress.”

“Investigators interviewed Kathryn Smith, the store manager, who reported that while she was getting into her vehicle, an unknown male had displayed a knife and demanded cash. She reported the male took the $3,000 in cash and ran off behind the building,” investigators said.

“During the course of the investigation, troopers located the reported stolen cash secreted in Smith’s vehicle.”

Smith was subsequently arrested.

She was arraigned in Williamstown Town Court and remanded to the Oswego County Jail without bail.
