COPENHAGEN — On Sept. 1, 2019, at approximately 5:39 a.m., State Police in Carthage responded to a UTV accident that occurred at 31602 Lee Road in the town of Champion, Jefferson County.
Investigation revealed Derek A. Moore, age 45 from Copenhagen, NY was operating a 2018 Polaris UTV on Lee Road at a high rate of speed, when he failed to negotiate a turn, striking two fixed signposts and drove off the shoulder of the roadway, which caused the UTV to overturn and strike a utility pole.
Moore was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
