NYSP Update: 2021 fatal pedestrian accident in town of Rodman

WATERTOWN, NY — On April 25, 2022, State Police arrested 19-year-old Garrett D. Fuller from Mannsville, NY for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident, a class “D” felony, and Failure to Keep Right, a violation.

Following an investigation completed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, it was determined the primary contributing factor of the crash was the driver’s failure to keep right, and an additional contributing factor of the operator falling asleep at the wheel.  The driver was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

 


On May 20, 2021, at 3:02 p.m., State Police responded to the area of Freeman Creek Road and County Route 68 in the town of Rodman for a reported fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation has revealed 69-year-old Virginia A. Galaydick, who resided on Freeman Creek Road was walking westbound on Freeman Creek Road, along the shoulder, when she was struck by a 2003 Ford pickup truck, operated by Garrett D. Fuller, age 18 from Mannsville, NY.

Mrs. Galaydick was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Fuller was evaluated at the scene by a State Police Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and showed no signs of any alcohol/drug impairment. He was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
