NYSP Update: 3 workers hurt in industrial accident in town of LeRay

WATERTOWN, NY —  State Police in Watertown is investigating an industrial accident that occurred June 24, 2020, at 29642 County Route 50 in the town of LeRay, Jefferson County.

The investigation has revealed that numerous construction workers were setting roof trusses on a structure at Black River Plumbing, Heating & AC when high winds caused several roof trusses to topple causing a worker to fall approximately 40 feet to the ground, troopers said.

Two other workers, who were inside the structure as the roof collapsed, suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

  • Mr. Lee M. Trickey, age 38, Theresa, NY, suffered severe internal injuries and was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and was listed in critical condition.

  • Mr. John J. Turpin, age 38, Carthage, NY, was transported to Carthage Area Hospital for minor injuries.

  • Mr. Lucas C. Conklin, age 29, Watertown, NY, was transported to Samaritan Medical Center for minor injuries.

The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Black River Police Department and Black River Fire Department.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is on-scene and conducting an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
