THERESA, NY — State Police in Watertown are investigating a fatal motorcycle/vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, on State Route 37 in the town of Theresa, Jefferson County.
A preliminary investigation has revealed, at approximately 9:50 a.m., a 2013 Toyota Rav 4, operated by Laura J. Spencer, 22, Watertown, NY, was traveling south on State Route 37 in the town of Theresa when she failed to keep right and traveled into the northbound lane striking a 2017 Harley-Davidson head-on, troopers said.
The operator of the motorcycle, 46-year-old, Shawn Rockefeller from Watertown, NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene, troopers said.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Kristi Rockefeller, age 41, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown and was later transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse in critical condition.
Spencer was transported to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where she was treated and released. She was issued a ticket for failure to keep right.
The investigation is continuing.
