HARRISIVILLE, NY — Funeral services for Orpha J. Atkinson, age 85, of Harrisville, NY, and formerly of Northampton, PA, will be held on 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Frary Funeral Home, Harrisville with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to funeral services.
Mrs. Atkinson passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Orpha is survived by her daughter, Carol Reed and her husband, Randy, of Denmark, NY; her son, Gerald Foose and his wife, Olivia, of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Magarette Fritz and her companion, Thomas Schneck and Doris Peters and her husband, Carl, both of Allentown, PA; a brother, Harold Hummel and his wife, Lynn, of Trenton, NJ; six grandchildren including a special grandson, Damien Hance, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Mildred Hummel; her beloved husband of thirty two years, David R. Atkinson; a son, Franklin W. Foose III, in 1976, and a brother, Walter A. Hummel in 2011.
Orpha was born on May 12, 1933, in Bath, PA, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Bloss Hummel. She was a graduate of Northampton High School. She married David Ross Atkinson in 1973. He predeceased her on July 25, 2006. She was a homemaker for most of her life and also worked for several businesses including, Kid’s Peace and Qubica AMF Bowling Worldwide in Lowville, NY.
Orpha enjoyed playing games on the computer, watching “Impractical Jokers” and completing crossword puzzles. She was an animal lover especially of her beloved cat, Allie Katt and Star & Miss Piggy, her daughter’s dogs.
