Rachel Ann Szucs, 90, Greig

GREIG, NY – Rachel Ann Szucs, 90, formerly of Main Street, Greig, passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 19, 2020, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

A funeral Mass will be said noon Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville with Rev. Jude Nnadibugha, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Please wear a make and follow the social distancing guidelines.

Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Rachel was born on April 11, 1930, in the town of Pinckney, a daughter of the late Ferguson John and Anna McDonald Van Nest. She was raised on Tug Hill, and attended Lowville Academy. Rachel became Catholic as a young woman along with three of her siblings. She worked at Beaverite Products, Glenfield, before her marriage.

On June 10, 1954, she married William Szucs. Rachel stayed home while her children were young. She returned to work at Beaverite, and worked there until the Glenfield mill closed in the mid 1980s. Mr. Szucs passed away on Nov. 22, 1987.

Rachel was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Greig.

She loved to play bingo, enjoyed knitting, playing cards with friends, and going for rides. Most of all she cherished her time spent with her entire family.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Sandra and Michael Holland of Glenfield; Jane and Steven Bassett of Glenfield; William Szucs and Jeanne of Boonville; John M. and Tina Szucs of Greig; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Burr of Lowville; Gerald and Shirley Van Nest of Lyons Falls; Joan Skiff of Lowville; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Van Nest, William “Keith” Van Nest, and John Van Nest.
