Remsen woman charged with DWI after crashing into house, troopers say

REMSEN, NY — Troopers responded at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, to 9621 Main St. in the village of Remsen for a reported vehicle that struck a building.

The investigation revealed a 2012 Suzuki SX4 was traveling westbound on Prospect Street in the village of Remsen at an unsafe speed, troopers said.

The driver failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Main Street, troopers said. The vehicle subsequently traveled across the north and southbound lanes of Main Street struck a snow embankment and traveled across a snow-covered yard before striking a wooden porch structure attached to 9621 Main St. troopers said.

The driver, Laura D. Mortagua, 56, of 10943 Commons Road Remsen, NY was charged with DWI (BAC 0.12%), speeding, unsafe tires, failed to stop for stop sign, moved from lane unsafely and unregistered motor vehicle.

She is summoned to appear 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in Remsen Town Court.
