Renewal of Thousand Islands International Bridge operating agreement

COLLINS LANDING ––  The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) is pleased to announce the renewal of its ten-year agreement with its operating partner the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited of Canada (FBCL).

Established in 1976, the agreement addresses the operations, management, applied standards, toll rates, capital improvements, safety, security and regional promotion of the joint bridge assets.

Last renewed in 2010, both parties formally executed the agreement on December 20, 2019, at the TIBA offices in Collins Landing, NY. The FBCL is a Government of Canada Crown Corporation while the TIBA operates as a NYS Public Benefit Corporation.

The operations of the Thousand Islands Bridge Systems are shared under this joint agreement.

Oversight of the agreement is provided by the seven board members comprising the TIBA’s Board.

All board members are appointed to five-year terms by the Chairman of the
Jefferson County Board of Legislators subject to approval by such board and are represented by four U.S. citizens and three Canadian citizens serving without salary or monetary compensation, but in the interest of public and community service.

The Authority’s Executive Director, Robert Horr stated that the continued operation of the Thousand Islands Bridge system as a single venture is in the mutual best interests of both parties and the millions of motorists who use these bridges every year.
