Richard P. Brower, 65, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY – Richard P. “Rick”  Brower, 65, passed away Monday morning, April 29, 2019, at his home under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

Rick was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Gloversville, NY,  the son of the late Preston S. and Lois L. Gaylord Brower. He spent his childhood in Wrentham, MA, before moving back to Lewis County where he graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School in 1972.

He was first employed by Lowville Farmers Co-op before starting Brower and Shaw Construction in 1986, with his longtime business partner Cal Shaw.  He retired in 2016.

On Sept. 19, 1998, Rick married Gail P. Kennison at Carlowden Country Club with Justice of the Peace, Robert King, officiating. The couple made their home in Lowville.

Rick was a life member of the Lowville BPOE #1605, where he served as house committee chairman for 4 years, served as trustee for 14 years, was Elk Meritorious in 2005, and named Elk of the year in 2007. He was also a member of the Sons of American Legion Post #162 and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Gail, daughters,  Jackie (Jake) Miller of Charlotte, NC and Angela (Steve) Porter of Adams Center; grandchildren, Madelyn, Brynn, Hudson, Landon, Collin, Kennedy and Kate.  He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa.

A memorial service will be held noon Sunday, May 5, at the Sundquist Funeral Home. There are no calling hours.
