Richard W. “Rick” Martin, Jr., 69, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Richard Walter “Rick” Martin, Jr., 69, of East Bradenton, Florida, formerly Watertown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown.

Born Dec. 20, 1948, in Watertown, a son of Richard W. and Sally Hutchins Martin, Sr. In 1968, he graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy and then attended Jefferson Community College.

He married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Byrne on April 4, 1970, at Holy Family Church.  Peggy died June 23, 2014.

Rick began Martin Dental Studio in 1974, joined by his brothers Tom and Steve, then later by his son Brian. Shortly after the death of his wife, he worked part time until his retirement in 2016.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, a member of Ives Hill Country Club for many years, and loved to play golf, boating, and enjoyed sports. In his later years he often met with friends at the American Legion.

He is survived by his sons, Brian (Tina), Black River, NY, Jeff (Shelly), Fairfax, VA, Kevin, Seneca Falls, NY; grandchildren, Kayleigh, Kyle, Joselyn, Hailee, Colin, Emma, and Nolan, brothers: Jack (Bambi), Thomas, Stephen (Robin); two sisters, Victoria “Vicki” LaBreck and Stephanie Shannon; a sister-in-law: Barb Byrne, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Mulcahy.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
