CALCIUM, NY – Robert C. Smith, 93, of US Route 11, Calcium, passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2021, at home, under the loving care of his family and Jefferson County Hospice.
Robert was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Theresa, NY, a son of the late Roy and Mable (Williams) Smith. When he was 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he received his high school diploma. He then went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War.
On Nov. 10, 1973, he married Patricia Hamilton.
Robert was employed as a milk inspector for Queens Farms in Copenhagen.
His family remembers him for being meticulous about his lawn and his genuine love for family.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patricia; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Robert C. (Kris) Smith Jr., Chaumont, and David T. (Sherry) Delaney, Clayton; a daughter, Debra Dunkirk, Antwerp; three granddaughters, Julie, Stephanie and Alissa; two grandsons, Kyle and Jordan; two great-granddaughters, Makayla and Taylor; and three great-grandsons, Zachary, Lowell and Stewart.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Earl, Clinton and George Smith; and three sisters, Martha Sequin, Anna Howard and Dorothy Christy.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, in Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium, where military honors will be rendered.
