COPENHAGEN, NY – Robert V. Kiernan, 85, Copenhagen died early Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2018, at his home under the care of Lewis County Hospice and his loving family.
Mr. Kiernan was born on August 5, 1933 in Watertown the son of the late William D. and Pansy Edith (Meister) Kiernan. Bob graduated from Copenhagen Central School, the class of 1951.
He was united in marriage with Beverly A. Hills on June 28, 1952 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lowville with Rev. Arnold Pedersen, officiating.
Bob worked for Queens Farms Dairy Milk Plant in Copenhagen, and helped his father on the farm. He also worked at Carthage Paper Makers, Crown Zellerbach, and did road construction on and off in later years. By trade Bob was a machinist at Black Clawson in Watertown where he retired after 21 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, their seven sons, William R. (Sue) of Lowville; Richard C. (Leslie) of Allentown, PA; James T. (Lisa) of Brantingham; Michael A. (Mary) of Watertown; Jon R. (Beth) of Rutland, VT; Robert L. (Robin) of Watertown; and Thomas H. (Tammie) of Copenhagen; his sister and brother-in-law, Wilma (Clement) Bush of Lowville; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by a sister and a brother-in-law, Wanda (Larry) Bush.
Robert was a member of River of Life Fellowship, Copenhagen, Co-Founder of the Copenhagen Civic Corporation, for a medical building. Life Member of Watertown B.P.O.E. Lodge # 469, Member of International Machinist & Steel Workers Union, and New York State and Black River Valley Fiddlers Association. Bob loved to dance and listen to the fiddlers.
After retirement Bob assisted his wife in Direct Sales for 25 years which earned them numerous trips thru out the world and the U.S. They also started Polar Bear Concessions in 1993, until 2012.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at River Of Life Fellowship in Copenhagen, with Pastor George Gray officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at the Sundquist Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery.
The Kiernan family would like to thank the nurses, and volunteers of Lewis County Hospice for their compassion and care shown to their family over the past three months.
