Samuel A. Johnson Sr. Memorial Bridge dedication Monday

DEXTER, NY — The Village of Dexter Police Department invites you to the dedication ceremony of the Dexter Chief of Police, Samuel A. Johnson Sr. Memorial Bridge.

The ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Picnic Point in the Village of Dexter.

New York State recently passed legislation naming the New York State Route 180 bridge running across the Black River from the Village of Dexter to the Town of Hounsfield in honor of Chief Johnson.

Chief Johnson was killed in the line of duty on September 11, 1987 responding to a report of shots fired on North Shore Road, near Middle Road, on Pillar Point.
