GLENFIELD, NY – Stanley Frederick Sweeney, 84, of Greig Road, Glenfield, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Born Jan. 29, 1936, in Greig, NY, the son of William and Ruth Sweeney, he attended General Martin Central School in Glenfield, N.Y.
He married Shirley J. Lee on Nov. 14, 1953. He was employed by the Georgia Pacific Paper Company for 43 years. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, spending winter months in South Carolina, and spending time with family and friends.
Stanley enjoyed making birdhouses, and was affectionately known as “The Birdhouse Man”.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Shelly (Patrick) Porter, Marsha LaLonde, Melinda Sweeney, Colleen (Mark) Maryhugh; and son Phillip (Becky) Sweeney; as well as 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Anne.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. There will be no calling hours. Spring burial will be in Otter Creek Cemetery.
