Stanley L. Burdick, 90, formerly of Watertown

COPPER HILL, VA  —  Stanley Lester Burdick passed away peacefully Oct. 18, 2022, at his home in Copper Hill, Virginia, shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Stan was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Adams, NY, the son of Donald Burdick and Katherine (Ault), and grew up in nearby Watertown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Donald Jr. and Richard, and by his devoted partner of 45 years, Douglas Todd.

Stan is survived by a brother David, a sister Sandra (and Bob) Woodward, his nephews, Steven, Kevin, and Gary, a niece Roxanne (and Scott) George, and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Stan enlisted in the Navy after graduating from high school and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He and Douglas lived there for 20 years before moving to Copper Hill in 1977, due to a deepening relationship with Light Morning community, also known as A.L.M.

Stan loved games. Triominos and Rummikub were among his favorites. He would go out to play Bingo with Sandra and Bob each time he visited them in Watertown. Another enjoyable pastime was buying the occasional low-dollar Scratch ticket at Kroger. Stan also loved to search the Kroger shelves for special bargains. Being a classic penny-pincher, he saw bargain-hunting as another delightful game.

Stanley also cultivated some warm friendships at Kroger. Making and keeping friends was indeed one of Stan’s greatest gifts. He befriended numerous people over the years and maintained lifelong friendships with many of them. He was there for them when they needed him, and they gladly returned his caring in any way they could. That’s why we are grieving Stan’s passing, and why we have already begun to celebrate his life.

There will be a Celebration-of-Life for Stan on November 2nd at 2:00.  Bring finger foods and memories to share at the Light Morning community Autumn Drive, Copper Hill, VA.
