
NYSP news release, Sept. 5, 2023:
“On September 1, 2023, around 12:37 p.m., Troopers responded to a vehicle and traffic complaint. An investigation determined Troopers observed yellow 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling north on State Highway 420, in the town of Massena at a high rate of speed. Troopers initiated a traffic stop, interviewed the driver, who was identified as Jennifer L. Crump, age 47, of North Lawrence, NY. Crump was showing signs of impairment. Troopers administrated standard field sobriety test which Crump failed. She was arrested and transported to SP Massena for processing. A DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) responded but Crump refused a further evaluation. Crump provided a blood sample to determine the drug content. Crump was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs and issued vehicle and traffic tickets for speeding and moved from lane unsafely. All tickets are returnable to the Town of Massena Court for a later date in December.
On September 1, 2023, around 8:20 p.m., Troopers observed a maroon 2004 Chevrolet Express van traveling west on State Route 11, in the town of Malone without head lamps or tail lamps illuminated. Troopers initiated a traffic stop, interviewed the operator who was identified as Guayner Perez Diaz, age 24, of Malone, NY. During the interview, Perez Diaz was showing signs of impairment. Troopers administrated standard field sobriety test, which Perez Diaz failed. The Troopers were attempting the place Perez Diaz under arrest he ran, and brief foot pursuit occurred. The Troopers caught Perez Diaz and he was taken into custody. Perez Diaz provided a positive breath sample. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and issued vehicle and traffic tickets. All tickets are returnable to the Town of Malone Court for a later date in September.
On September 1, 2023, around 10:36 p.m., a gray 2009 GMC Sierra was traveling east on Hailesboro Street in the village of Gouverneur, when the Troopers searched the registration, it was suspended due to insurance lapse. The Troopers initiated a traffic stop, interviewed the driver, who was identified as Brandon D. Parker, age 24, of Gouverneur, NY. While speaking with him, he was showing signs of impairment. Troopers administrated standard field sobriety test, which Parker failed. While searching the vehicle, Parker was in possession of a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance, troopers sid. Parker was arrested and transported to SP Gouverneur for processing. Parker refused a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) and refused to provide a blood sample. Parker was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, and issued vehicle and traffic stops. All tickets are returnable to the Village of Gouverneur Court for a later date in October.
On September 1, 2023, around 9:25 p.m., Troopers conducting a DWI stationary checkpoint observed a gray 2019 Ford F150 approach the check point traveling south on State Route 22, in the town of Plattsburgh. The operator of the vehicle was identified as James M. LaFountain, age 30, of Peru, NY. While interviewing LaFountain, he was showing signs of impairment. Troopers administrated standard field sobriety test, which LaFountain failed. LaFountain was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. LaFounatin provided a positive breath sample of 0.07% BAC. He was arrested for driving while ability impaired by alcohol. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Plattsburgh Court and must appear in court on a later date in October.
On September 1, 2023, around 8:11 p.m., Troopers responded to a property damage accident on State Route 86, in the town of Harrietstown. An investigation determined operator, Garry E. Hoffman, age 67, of Bloomingdale, NY was traveling northwest on State Route 86, in a brown 2006 Nissan X-terra, when he fails to maintain control of the vehicle, moving from the lane unsafely, and striking the southeast guiderail. While interviewing Hoffman he was showing signs of impairment. Troopers administrated standard field sobriety test, which Hoffman failed. While searching Hoffman, he was found to be in possession of a glass smoking device containing drug residue, aluminum foil with burnt residue, and pills not in their original container. He was arrested and transported to SP Ray Brook for processing. Hoffman provided a blood sample at Adirondack Medical Center to determine the drug content. He as charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh-degree and issued vehicle and traffic tickets. All tickets are returnable to the Town of Harrietstown Court for a later date in September.”
