SU women’s lax season preview

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women’s lacrosse will take on Northwestern and Boston College in a rematch of last year’s national semifinal and final, respectively, in 2022. Overall, 11 of the Orange’s 17 games this season will be against teams that played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Kayla Treanor will make her debut on the Syracuse sideline when the Orange open the 2022 campaign on Friday, Feb. 11 against Stanford in the Carrier Dome. After a home game against Binghamton on Feb. 13, the Orange host Stony Brook on Feb. 20 in what will be a historical day as Katie Rowan ’09 will become the first player in program history to have her jersey retired.

Syracuse goes on the road for the first time for its ACC opener at Notre Dame on Feb. 26 and a matchup at Northwestern on March 1. The Orange defeated the Wildcats, 21-13, in last year’s NCAA Tournament semifinal. Syracuse returns home to take on Duke on March 6 before embarking on a road swing that includes games at Virginia (March 12), Florida in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament quarterfinal (March 16) and Virginia Tech.

‘Cuse returns to the Dome for its longest homestand of the season. After non-conference contests against Temple (March 26) and Loyola (March 29), the Orange take on Pittsburgh for the first time on April 2 before facing North Carolina on April 9 in rematch of last year’s ACC Tournament final.

After a road game at Cornell on April 12, Syracuse hosts Louisville on April 16 and UAlbany on April 19. The Orange conclude the season at Boston College on April 23. That game marks the first meeting between the two schools since the 2021 NCAA Tournament championship game.

Syracuse posted a 17-4 record last season and earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange made their eighth appearance at Championship Weekend and advanced to the title game for the third time in program history.
