Susan E. Hoppel Young, 58, Brantingham

BRANTINGHAM, NY – Susan E. Hoppel Young, 58, of Middle Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2019, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.

The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Pastor Bruce Lyndaker officiating. Burial will be in Brantingham Cemetery in the spring. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the funeral service at the Croghan American Legion Post #1663, all are welcome. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Susan was born on Oct. 17, 1961, in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Howard E. Jr. and Barbara Hewitt Hoppel, but was raised by her aunt and uncle, Gerald and Dorothy Hoppel following the death of her parents. She graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1979. While in high school, Sue attended B.O.C.E.S for food preparation.

She worked for Greenbriar Nursing Home in Carthage, and in 1981 she attended Nurse’s Aide Training at Glenfield B.O.C.E.S.

On May 7, 1983, she married Bruce S. Young at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, with Rev. Bernard Christman officiating.

Sue worked for Lewis County General Hospital before raising her girls.  She began working for the Lewis County ARC as a caregiver, working there from 1993 until 2005, when she began her employment with Upstate Cerebral Palsy in Boonville.  Sue went back to work with the ARC as a job coach from 2005 – 2008, until her illness.  She returned to work as a registration clerk at the Lewis County General Hospital emergency room for five years until her retirement in April 2019.

Sue was a member of Emmaus Bible Fellowship at Maple Ridge.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were everything to her, as well as traveling and camping.

She is survived by her husband of over 36 years, Bruce; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie and Gilbert Tebo II of Lowville; Kelly and Denny Donoghue III of LaFargeville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Danine Davidson of Carthage; Julie and Alan Trickey of Canandaigua; Lisa and Dale Proulx of Castorland; two step-sisters and their husbands, Daryl and Brian Eastwood of Canastota; Janice and Thomas Chartrand of Harrisville; three grandchildren, Autumn, Declan and Arya; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother-in-law, William Davidson; her maternal grandparents, Catherine and Charles Hewitt; her paternal grandparents, Howard Sr. and Helen Hoppel.
