NYSP: Theresa man arrested for unlawfully entering Fort Drum and stealing a military vehicle

FORT DRUM, NY —  State Police in Watertown arrested Nathan J. McElhone, age 46, from Theresa, NY, for the following:

  • Robbery second-degree (C-felony)

  • Reckless Endangerment first-degree (D-felony)

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property fifth-degree (A-misdemeanor)

  • Criminal Trespass third-degree (B-misdemeanor)

On August 19, 2021, at approximately 5 a.m., McElhone drove onto the Fort Drum Base near Training Range 41B and stole a military Humvee, troopers said.

While stealing the military vehicle, McElhone caused an injury to a soldier who attempted to stop the theft, troopers said.

McElhone was subsequently detained by members of a military unit and turned over to the Military Police.  McElhone was also found to be in possession of stolen military property (targets and a wood shelving unit).

Nathan J. McElhone was arraigned in Clayton Town Court and remanded to the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff without bail.
