Troopers conduct underage drinking enforcement detail in St. Lawrence County

CANTON, NY (news release) —  On February 21, 2021, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Enforcement Detail in St. Lawrence County. Ten establishments were checked for compliance and two of the ten establishments sold alcohol to a person who under the age of 21.

The following establishments were checked and are recognized for their compliance:

  1. The Corner Store, State Route 37 C, Massena

  2. Stewart’s Shop, State Route 11C, Winthrop

  3. Lamphere’s Market, State Route 11B, Hopkinton

  4. Valero, Elm Street, Potsdam

  5. 7-Eleven, South Main Street, Norwood

  6. Hometown Market and Deli, Spring Street, Norwood

  7. Sharlow’s Service Station, State Route 37, Waddington

  8. LaVigne’s IGA, Lincoln Avenue, Waddington

The two establishments that were non-compliant are as follows:

Town Line Market, State Route 11C, Stockholm

State Police arrested 29-year-old Natalie A. Burnett of Brasher Falls, for selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21.  She was charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree, and section 65 under the New York State Alcohol Beverage Control Law; Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage.  Burnett was released with an appearance ticket, returnable to the Stockholm Town Court.

Fefee’s Market, West Main Street,  Norfolk

State Police arrested 21-year-old Gabriel J. Goodspeed of Norfolk, for selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21.  He was charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree, and section 65 under the New York State Alcohol Beverage Control Law; Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage.  Goodspeed was released with an appearance ticket, returnable to the Norfolk Town Court.

During these investigations, retail establishments are checked utilizing a trooper in plainclothes, and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or give a false date of birth.  When asked for ID, they show their real ID.
