Troopers investigate head-on crash on Route 104 in town of Mexico

MEXICO, NY  —  State Police in Pulaski investigated a tractor-trailer/pickup truck crash that occurred January 28, 2021, on State Route 104 in the town of Mexico.

The investigation had revealed, at approximately 11:40 a.m., a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by Shamus P. McDowell, age 23, from Mexico, NY, was traveling east on State Route 104 when he crossed over into the westbound lane and struck a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer, operated by Lawrence E. Wallace, age 67, from Cato, NY, head-on.

The tractor-trailer continued off the north shoulder of the roadway.

Mr. Wallace was transported to Upstate University Hospital for a shoulder injury.

Mr. McDowell was transported to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 21-year-old female passenger in the pickup was transported to Upstate University Hospital for a minor knee injury.

The NYS DEC Spill Response responded to the scene due to approximately 60 gallons of fuel leaking from the tractor-trailer’s fuel tank.

The investigation is continuing.
