Watertown man accused of threatening police officers with metal baseball bat

WATERTOWN, NY —  Matthew W. East, 20, of 214 Clinton St., Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the 100 block of Stone Street with two counts of each second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Mr. East is accused of possessing a full-sized metal baseball bat with the intent to place two uniformed police officers in fear of physical injury at about 8:52 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, according to court documents. “The defendant did this when he refused to drop the bat and instead held it up and back as though he was getting ready to swing it towards the officers,” police wrote.
