Watertown man accused of violating order of protection, punching woman

WATERTOWN, NY —  Ryan C. Hughes, 24, of 1620 Huntington St., Apt. U2, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 4:08 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 1620 Huntington St. with two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, a single count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor and second-degree harassment.

He is accused of violating the terms of two refrain-from orders of protection out of Ogdensburg and Watertown city courts when he allegedly slapped and punched Mary R. Rutherford, 26, during a domestic incident at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday at 1620 Huntington St., Apt. U2, according to court documents.

He also allegedly attempted to remove a phone from Ms. Rutherford as she was dialing 911 to seek assistance, police said.

He was being held pending arraignment Wednesday morning in City Court.
