Watertown man charged with felony DWI

WATERTOWN, NY —   Aaron R. Clemons, 41, of 933 LeRay St., Lot 5, Trailer 79, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in the 600 block of Cooper Street with felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI and failure to keep right.

His blood alcohol content was 0.21 percent, police said. A BAC of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI, which carries harsher penalties upon conviction, is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or greater.

The DWI charge is a felony due to a previous conviction Feb. 17, 2017, in City Court, police said.

He is summoned to appear Sept. 18 in City Court.

Mr. Clemons was a City Council candidate earlier this year, but he failed to advance to the general election.
