WATERTOWN, NY — The Volunteer Transportation Center, Inc. (VTC) is proud to announce it has received $5,000 from Watertown Savings Bank in support of events the nonprofit organization will host in 2020. The funding from the local financial institution will be recognized with Underwriter Level sponsorship of all VTC events this year and will benefit services provided by the organization across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties.
“The Volunteer Transportation Center helps so many individuals in our community,” said Mark R. Lavarnway, President and Chief Executive Officer of Watertown Savings Bank. “We’re proud to support the work they do and the partnership we’ve developed with them.”
“We greatly appreciate Watertown Savings Bank’s continued support of our mission to help those facing transportation challenges here in the North Country,” said Sam Purington, Executive Director of the VTC. “Without their support, the impact we and our volunteer drivers make would be greatly limited. The importance of their support cannot be overstated.”
“Watertown Savings Bank is a trusted community partner and one we at the Volunteer Transportation Center value greatly,” said VTC Foundation Director Jeremiah S. Papineau. “Their support will be recognized throughout the year at our events, like our next event, the 21st Annual North Country Chili Cook-Off.”
The cook-off will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington St., Watertown, and feature 30 amateur and professional chefs who will compete for great prizes. The competition begins at 11 a.m. and awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

“The cook-off is just one example of where Watertown Savings Bank will be recognized in 2020,” said Mr. Papineau. “Through their financial support of the VTC, they will serve as an Underwriter for our Posh Purse Palooza this May, our golf tournament in St. Lawrence County in July, our golf tournament in Lewis County in September and our Mac and Cheese Cook-Off in Potsdam this November, just to name a few events. We cannot thank them enough for their support.”
