Watertown woman accused of violating order of protection during December incident

WATERTOWN, NY —  Brooke M. Countryman, 24, of 309 Mill St., Apt. 502, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 2:02 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at 1134 US Route 11 in the town of Hastings with second-degree criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.

Ms. Countryman is accused of leaving a 14-month-old and a 4-month-old alone when she climbed out a back window and down a fire escape when she learned police were called to conduct a welfare check of the children at about 5:06 p.m. Dec. 13, 2019, at 309 Mill St., Apt. 502, according to court documents. Police said a Jefferson County Family Court stay-away order of protection was in effect for the two children at the time of the incident.

She was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment Tuesday in City Court.
