WFD: Arsenal Street home damaged by fire, person’s hands burned

Incident: Residential Structure Fire

Location: 410 Arsenal St.

Companies Responding: Engine1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Truck 1, Rescue 1 and Chief 3

Owner: Herbert Gould

Situation Found: All City Fire Companies were dispatched to a reported kitchen fire at 410 Arsenal St. Upon arrival of Chief 3, a working fire was confirmed with smoke showing at the rear of a 2-story wood frame single family dwelling. The fire was knocked down quickly but had extended into the wall and ceiling above the kitchen.

The fire caused severe damage to the kitchen area, as well as smoke damage
throughout the structure.

Cause: City Fire Investigators have determined the nature of the fire to be accidental.

Remarks: Two adult tenants were displaced by the fire and were assisted at the scene by American Red Cross. One of the tenants was transported to SMC with burns on both hands. The 400 block of Arsenal St was closed for a short duration due to supply hose being across the street.

City Codes condemned the house until repairs can be made.

Assistance at the scene was provided by City PD, GEMS, Fort Drum FD, National Grid, City Codes and City Water Dept.
