William B. Hickox, 77, Cape Vincent

CAPE VINCENT, NY —  William B. Hickox, 77, a resident of Cape Vincent, NY and Nokomis, FL, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021, at his residence in Cape Vincent.

Born Oct. 1, 1943, in Marshall, MO, son of Harry and Betty Jo (Stanley) Hickox, he graduated from Valley High School, Syracuse.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1961. He received his honorable discharge in 1964, and began his long career with General Motors in Syracuse, where he worked as a tool & die maker and machine repairman until 1994. He then became employed with Marcellus Casket Company in Syracuse as a machine repairman until his retirement in 1999.

Bill was a member of the UAW Local 854 Union and longtime member of the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department, where he was an EMT and underwater recovery team member.

He was an avid NY Yankee fan and enjoyed golfing, scuba diving, telling long stories, traveling, spending time on the St. Lawrence River and enjoying sunsets.

Bill is survived by his wife Diane; his mother Betty J. Hickox, Syracuse; three daughters and their spouses, Kelly and Peter Mahan, Oswego, Kim and Tom Linkous, Milford DE and Tracy and Danny Nieves, Colorado; a son and his wife, William and Jennifer Hickox, Dover DE; a step daughter and her husband,Vicki and  Justin Lawton, Albany; a step son and his wife, Michael and Michele Myers, Amherst; three sisters and their spouses, Kathy and Ted Padgett, Englewood FL, Lisa and Rick Robinson, Michigan, and Lynn and William Jacques, Syracuse; a brother, Gary Hickox, MO; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His father Harry M. Hickox Jr., predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 13, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton. The family is hosting a luncheon from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at Natali’s Restaurant, C-Way Golf Course, Clayton. To honor Bill, casual attire is requested for the calling hours and luncheon.
