William J. “Bill” Smith, 72, Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — William J. “Bill” Smith, 72, died suddenly on Thursday, July 9, 2020, after being stricken at his home.

There will be a private graveside service in Grove Cemetery in LaFargeville.

A Celebration of Life will take place in the near future at a time and place to be announced.

Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.

Bill was born Nov. 17, 1947, in Watertown, the son of Gilbert and Ethelyn Walters Smith.

On June 18, 1968, he married the former Kathy Fulmer at the Clayton Methodist Church.

Bill worked as a farmer in LaFargeville growing up. He then became a Meat Cutter for all the Big M grocery stores in the area until 1990, when he went to work for the Town of Clayton Transfer Site, where he retired in 2014.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, target shooting, root beer floats, watching Syracuse basketball, New York Yankees, and the New York Giants.

Surviving besides his wife, Kathy, are four daughters, Rebecca (Rob) Hoch of Beaver Falls, Rhonda (James) Winkel of LaFargeville, Robin (Ronnie) Kilborn of Clayton, and Renee (Jeff) Smith of Clayton; grandchildren, Chelsey (John), Kim (Johnathon), Tiffani, Lizzie (Forrest), Chasity (Ricky), Jaydn, Nick (Skyler), Austin, Darren, Alexis, Breanna (Devan), Nathan, Heather, Tonya (Anthony), Robbie, Megan; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Wayne (Sandy) Smith, and Karen (Dave) Bourcy.
