WATERTOWN, NY — Siobhan G. Smith, 31, Rockville Center, Nassau County, was charged by state police with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, a class “A” misdemeanor and reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations which occurred in the townships of Watertown, Pamelia, and Orleans.
On Sept. 16, 2019, at 4:08 p.m., troopers attempted to stop a 2007 Hyundai Tucson for speeding (92 mph) that was traveling northbound on Interstate 81 in the town of Watertown. The driver refused to stop and continued to travel north on I-81 at high speeds of 106 mph, troopers said.
The pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.
Shortly thereafter, a state police investigator located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot in the town of Alexandria Bay at a gas pump.
Ms. Smith was arraigned in town of Watertown Court and was remanded to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
Troopers were also advised the same vehicle was involved in a similar pursuit approximately one-hour earlier in Onondaga County.
