WPD: Evans Mills man failed to stop for red light, caused collision with patrol vehicle

WATERTOWN, NY —  The Watertown Police Department released the following statement on Thursday, April 28, 2022:

“On 04/27/2022, at 3:26 PM, one of our uniformed officers was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Off. Travis Workman was operating a marked patrol vehicle heading west on Stone St. under a green traffic signal at the intersection with S. Massey St. in the city. An operator of a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north on S. Massey St., passed under a red traffic signal at the intersection and caused the collision with patrol vehicle. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to extensive damages. Off. Workman received a minor injury. He was transported to an urgent care where he was treated and released.

During the investigation, our officers spoke to two witnesses who advised they were stopped on S. Massey St. with a red light as they were waiting to make a left turn onto Stone St. They advised the Chevrolet pickup truck sped past them in the right lane and entered the intersection under a red traffic light where the truck pulled in front of the patrol vehicle.

The operator of the pickup truck was identified as 42-year-old Marc B. Gross of Evans Mills, NY. He cited for NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law 511-1a Aggravated Unlicensed Operation Third Degree and 1111-d1 Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal.

We were assisted at the scene by the Watertown Fire Department.”
