WPD: Man accused of threatening 7-Eleven clerk with knife during theft

WATERTOWN, NY — The Watertown Police Department released the following statement on July, 20, 2022:

“On this date, at 2:50 AM, dispatch received a report of a male who displayed a knife during a larceny at the 7-Eleven, 430 Factory St., store in the city.

Uniformed patrol officers quickly responded to the area. While interviewing witnesses the officers learned the male had taken a can of Twisted Tea with a value of $3.60, left a $1.60 on the counter, and walked out of the store with the item. The clerk went outside to stop the male, who became aggressive. The male then displayed a knife and threatened the clerk. The suspect then fled on foot; however, he was stopped by the officers down the street. He was arrested without incident and brought to the station.

The suspect is identified as 21-year-old Justin M. Petterson of 1708 Ohio St. Watertown, NY.

He was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, a class B felony, Menacing in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth degree, both class A misdemeanors.

He was brought to City Court where he was arraigned.

Mr. Petterson was given a pretrial probationary release.
