WPD: Man attempted to rob Franklin Street Market with pair of scissors

News release

WATERTOWN, NY —  On this date, on or about 12:52 PM, our uniformed patrol officers were dispatched to a report of an attempted robbery at the Franklin St. Market located at 247 Franklin St. in our city.

It was reported that a male armed with a pair of scissors demanded cigarettes and cash from the 62-year-old store clerk. When another person entered the store, the male fled with the scissors. A witness followed the suspect to a residence on Clay St. in the city where he was located by officers. He agreed to speak with our detectives at the station.

This evening detectives arrested 28-year-old Matthew D. Cobb of 414 Clay St. Apartment #6A. Watertown, NY.

He has been charged with one count of NYS Penal Law 110/160.15 sub 3: Attempted Robbery First Degree and 265.02 sub 1: Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.

He is being held at our station to await his arraignment.
