WPD: Man struck dog 5 times

WATERTOWN, NY — The Watertown Police Department released the following statement on July 27, 2023:

“On 07/27/2023 at 10:48 a.m., members of our uniformed patrol division were
dispatched to 1223 Faichney Drive for an animal abuse complaint. It was alleged that Dalontae Virgil-Wilkinson struck a dog five times, causing the dog to yelp, and then picked up the dog by the neck and carried it down a set of stairs.

Dalontae Virgil-Wilkinson, a 25-year-old male residing at 1221 Faichney Dr, apartment 7, was charged with Torturing an Animal, a Class A Misdemeanor. He
was arraigned in Watertown City Court where he was released on his own recognizance.

The Honorable Judge Neddo issued a warrant to seize the dog which was taken into custody by Jefferson County Dog Control.

We were assisted by the Jefferson County Dog Control in this investigation.”
